How To Transition Your Dog Onto Raw Food

How Should I Introduce Raw Food To My Dog?

One of the most common questions we are asked from new customers, is how should they transition their dog from dry dog food, to a healthier raw food diet. It is a great question, as this is an important step in improving your dogs overall wellbeing. So, I will answer that question in a general nature for you here.

First and most important in my option, if your dog is on processed (dry food) or cooked food then introduce the new raw dog food slowly.

Here is a 2-week transition guide that could be followed. I like to recommend the 2-week transition because if your dog is on processed food, its gut health will be poor and have become lazy. This can mean that it may not cope well with a big hit of raw food suddenly.

You need to do it gradually so that the good gut bacteria have a chance to build up. This is necessary for your dog to break food down properly. What may also happen if you do a fast transition when your dog has poor gut health. is that they may get diarrhea or vomit. That is no fun for anybody in the middle of the night.

This guide to transitioning a dog to raw food is quite easy to follow.

You can also choose a product like a turkey mince or turkey barf that is good for sensitive tummies. I will often also suggest Canine Country Inner Health Barf from my range of products, as it has been designed for sensitive tummies. It is also great for dogs with sensitive skin and is super low fat.

How much do I feed my dog?

Don’t overfeed your dog or you could turn them into a fussy eater. Worse still, they could become overweight and this can cause health issues too. Here is a guide on how much raw dog food to feed dogs of different sizes.
